Maybe you’re new here, or maybe you’re checking out my website for the first time in a while. Here’s a list of frequently asked questions that I have already answered for you!
How do I know what kind of service to book?
This is a difficult question to answer in a basic FAQ’s section here on my website, but I’m gonna do my best! Here’s some guidelines for deciding what service you might want.
- If you are a new client looking to go lighter, brighter, or get a more lived-in look, then book a transformational session. No matter what we’re doing with your hair, it will feel like a transformation from what you have currently. I also like to make sure that I have plenty of time with you especially at your first appointment to have a consultation, and figure out what you really want, then get to work on achieving those goals!
- If you are looking to cover roughly 6 weeks of regrowth (they can be grey or not) and also achieve more dimension with highlights and potentially lowlights, then you’ll want to book a dimensional coverage session. I’ll have plenty of time to do a consultation with you to decide what your goals are going forward, and then bring you closer to your dream hair goals!
- If you have about 6 weeks of regrowth and would like to refresh the color on your ends as well, you’ll want to book a coverage session.
- If you have already been a client of mine for a while and you’re looking to refresh your balayage, then you’ll want to book a balayage refresh session! *If you have balayage but you’re new to me, then please make sure you book a transformational session instead of a balayage refresh. I want to make sure I have plenty of time to give you the best experience possible!*
- If you have had your hair colored with me already and you just want to refresh your face framing highlights and the gloss on your ends, then you’ll want to book a light maintenance session.
- If you have had your hair colored and highlighted with me before, but we don’t do balayage, you’ll want to book a dimensional coverage session.
- If you have had your hair colored with me and you don’t think you want a drastic change, but you’d like to refresh the gloss on your ends and trim it up a little, then you’ll want to book a lived in color refresh.
- Just a quick note after looking at these guidelines: If you are looking to change what I have been doing with your hair, or you are a new client and you’re struggling to figure out what you want, you should book a transformational session. This gives me enough time for us to change what we’re doing and set up a plan going forward to achieve the new look you want! If you’re still hesitant to book anything because you’re unsure or you can’t find anything open in my online schedule, please email me at thekindredstylist@gmail.com.
I want regular highlights. How do I book that service?
The easiest way to answer this question is: I don’t specialize in traditional highlights. I focus on creating lived in color looks that allow your hair to grow out looking as natural as possible. If you’re looking for a chunky highlight (like Christina Aguilera circa 2002), then I’m probably not the right stylist for you. If you’re looking to change your color and you wanna try something new, you’ll want to book a transformational session. If you’d like to do a consultation before booking, please email me at thekindredstylist@gmail.com – we’ll decide together what the best option is for your first appointment!
I need my roots covered. What service do I need to book?
If you have 6 weeks of regrowth and you’re looking to refresh them as well as the color on your ends, you’ll want to book a coverage refresh session.
If you have 6 weeks of regrowth and you’re looking to add some more dimension to your over all color, you’ll want to book a dimensional coverage session.
I want to book an appointment with you, but I can’t find an opening. What should I do?
My online booking site opens for new appointments on the first of every month and will show you the openings I have left for the current month, and the following month as well. You can also join my waitlist for a date and time that you’re looking for, and if I have an opening at that time, I’ll make sure to contact you!
If you’re struggling with what type of appointment to book, send me an email at thekindredstylist@gmail.com! I love seeing your name pop up there, so we’ll chat and decide together what services suit your current needs!
I’m a new client. What do I need to know before booking an appointment?
You can book your appointment online, or send an inquiry to do an email consultation prior to booking. Your appointment request will be received, then I will email you with some questions and we’ll do a quick consultation to make sure we’re a good fit! I will send you some available appointment dates and times after we decide what we want to do at your first session. Once we book your desired time and day, you will receive a welcome email with details to ensure your first visit is seamless.
When you arrive to your appointment, we will have an in-depth and thorough consultation. We’ll talk about your hair goals, for not only today, but for the future as well.
Your formula will be custom blended, and will be recorded in my computerized database. I’ll be able to access your color history at any time with this system. Its really helpful for future visits, so that I remember exactly what colors and techniques I have used on your hair! We have a variety of amenities to keep you comfortable while your color processes as well.
Your services will be customized by keeping your face shape, lifestyle and goals in mind. I will also share my best tips and tricks to help you recreate your new look at home. If you have questions at any point during your appointment, feel free to ask! I’m your personal hairstylist nerd, at your service!
We will wrap up your visit by sharing my recommendations for at home care, to help you protect your investment. (Yes, we will treat your hair like it’s an investment, because it is one, and we want you to get the most out of it!) I will also recommend a maintenance schedule, and book your next appointment so we can ensure that you get an appointment during your most desired time.
If you’re ready to experience all of this, then send me an email at thekindredstylist@gmail.com , and I’ll be chatting with you before you know it!
What is lived in color?
Lived in color is a bit different from normal coloring and highlighting techniques because the focus is to allow your hair to grow out as seamlessly as possible. The goal is to create minimal maintenance for you between your longer coloring sessions. I want you to be able to enjoy your color for as long as possible so that you can enjoy spending your life doing the things you love doing.
Highlights are blended more than they used to be, creating a blend between your roots and the highlights. You’ll have more dimension with this coloring method than you might with a traditional highlight, while also blending the color so that your hair will grow out softer as well.
What is balayage?
Balayage is a technique where I freehand paint highlights and lowlights directly onto your hair to create a very graduated and blended final color result. It is different from lived in color in many ways, but the biggest is the way the product is applied. It gives a very gradient blend and requires very little maintenance throughout the life of the color. You may only need to do your refresh balayage session once or twice a year once we have achieved the look you desire!
How is balayage different from a regular highlight?
Balayage is a highlighting method in which I hand paint the lightener onto your hair for a very gradient highlight. It creates a much softer end result than a traditional highlight would. Traditional highlights are done in foils and go all the way to your root and require regular maintenance, and balayage generally does not go all the way to your root and requires less maintenance.
Should I wash my hair before an appointment?
With all coloring services, it is best to have clean, dry hair. If it is possible, please wash your hair the day before your coloring appointment so that I have a fresh canvas to work with!
If you are coming in for a gloss and haircut refresh session, there is no need to wash your hair beforehand. I’ll be washing your hair and giving you a lovely scalp massage right away during our session!
What is your cancellation and late policy?
I understand that schedules may change and things out of your control happen. We require at least 24 hours notice when canceling or rescheduling your appointment. A credit card is required to hold your appointment. Appointments canceled within 24 hours, or for clients that “no show” will incur a charge of 50% of the service amount.
Please note that I also have a late policy. If you are over 15 minutes late to your scheduled appointment, I may have to reschedule your appointment. All attempts to reschedule in a timely manner will be made. If I do not hear from you 15 minutes or more into your scheduled appointment, you will be marked as a “No Show” and your card will be charged 50% of the service scheduled.
If you have “No Showed” twice in one year, your third missed appointment will incur a charge of 100% of the appointment scheduled, and will no longer be able to book an appointment with me.
To protect you: I respect and honor your time. If I need to cancel your appointment due to unsafe weather conditions, power outages, or other unforeseen circumstances with less than 24 hours notice, I will do everything I can to reschedule your appointment in a timely manner.
By booking an appointment, you are agreeing to these terms and agree to have a credit card on file in order to pay all incurred fees if necessary.
